Ricky Gervais and partner Jane Fallon have updated fans after they decided to keep their foster cat Pickle as a pet – and it’s the wholesome content we all needed.

The After Life star and the author, both 59, took in the animal following the sad death of their cat Ollie, who died aged 16 in March.

Pickle was originally only meant to stay with the couple for a few days, before Ricky and Jane decided they wanted to keep her for good.

Since then, the two have taken to social media to share plenty of snaps of the feline, as they inform followers on how their new pet has been settling into their home.

Ricky had first taken to Instagram to post an adorable photo of him cuddling up to Pickle, writing: ‘Our first photo together.’

He later uploaded two more playful pics of the cat, with the comedian jokingly adding that a particular angle in one of the pictures ‘makes her face look fat’.

In another, Ricky was seen pointing towards a naughty-looking Pickle, as he captioned the post: ‘I wonder who’s been sharpening their claws on the back of the sofa.’

Over on Twitter, Jane revealed that she had bought some bowls for Pickle to enjoy her food and water, which just so happened to match the colour scheme of their kitchen.

She wrote: ‘I brought Pickle some new bowls so everything she had wasn’t a hand me down, & they just happen to match my kitchen beautifully.’

Ricky later shared another selfie of the cat lying alongside him, captioning the post: ‘We Gangsta.’

Another photo showcased Pickle’s big green eyes, as Ricky jokingly added: ‘Say No to drugs.’

Last week, the comedian had told fans that Pickle – originally called Catkins – had officially become part of the family, writing: ‘Quick update on the cat we’re fostering. She keeps getting on my lap and staring at me. We’re keeping her.’

Jane also tweeted the most adorable photo of the cat chilling on the floor and revealed: ‘BIG NEWS!!! This will come as no surprise to anyone. We’ve fallen in love with Catkins – and her with us we think – and we’re keeping her!’

The pair were at first stuck on a name for the pet, with Jane adding: ‘We’re going to rename her. (She was only called Catkins by the rescue). Any suggestions? #FosterFail #Obviously.’

A few hours later, they had finally settled on their name, as the author tweeted: ‘OK we have made a decision… meet Pickle. Full name Pickilicious Fatkins The First. #Pickle.’

It’s a name we can certainly get on board with.
